REPORT CARD
INFORMATION
This year we will
be unveiling a new report card at the intermediate schools
(North and West). Those of you that had children that attended
the Woburn Street or Shawsheen Schools are already familiar with
competency-based report cards. Beginning this year students at
the intermediate level we will also be evaluated on their
academic performance (competencies) based on the standards
developed by the Department of Education. These same standards
form the basis for the MCAS exam administered to all students in
the spring each year.
The biggest
difference between the new report card and what your children
received at the Woburn Street or Shawsheen is that our report
card will also contain traditional letter grades (A, B, C,
etc.), as has been done in the past. Our challenge in
developing this new report card was to create something that
would continue what has been started at the lower levels
(competency-based assessment), while retaining letter grades
which are used exclusively at the middle school level – to
create a hybrid of sorts between the two.
To review the new
report card, please click the link below. The first thing
you’ll notice is the Evaluation Key. On this report card we
will be using three types of marking symbols
-
Letter Grades:
A, B, C, etc.
-
Competencies:
M, P, L, NE
-
Effort: 1, 2,
3
Grade 4 Report card
Grade 5 Report card
Letter grades will
be assigned for English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social
Studies and Science. Competencies will be evaluated for English
Language Arts and Math as well as all specialist areas. Effort
grades will be assigned for all subject areas, including
specialists and “Student Responsibilities.”
Please take some
time to familiarize yourself with these new report cards. We’re
hopeful that you will find this format useful in understanding
how your child is progressing at school. As always, please feel
free to contact us if you have any questions.
