Life Threatening

Allergies

It is estimated that more than 3 million children have food allergies (that’s 1 out of every 25 children!).   Food allergies may result in a severe life-threatening reaction known as anaphylaxisAnaphylaxis is an immediate, systemic reaction affecting multiple systems of the body.  The most common causes of anaphylaxis in children are insect stings and food; such as Peanuts, tree nuts, milk, egg and fish.

We have a number of students with life-threatening food allergies.  Please continue to adhere to our policy of providing PEANUT and NUT-FREE snacks for the classroom.   All snacks should be packed separately from their lunch and must contain an ingredient label.  Always check with your child’s classroom teacher regarding Birthday and classroom celebrations.  Children enjoy non food items such as stickers, pencils, or trinkets to share with classmates for Birthdays.

“A child must learn to be healthy and be healthy to learn”

COLD & FLU SEASON

Frequent hand washing is the best preventative measure for battling colds and flu. Children should be reminded to cough into their sleeve at their elbow. This helps to keep their hands clean and keeps air-borne germs from spreading.

Hands should be washed:

  • Before you touch food.

  • Before you eat

  • After you use the toilet.

  • After you sneeze or Cough.

And don’t forget the time-tested favorites of eating well, drinking plenty of fluids and getting lots of rest.

Recess

The children will be going out daily (weather permitting) for recess.  During this time of year, the temperature can vary from cold in the morning to warm afternoons.  Please dress your child appropriately for the weather.  Dressing in layers is best.

Important Reminder:  Remember to update, in writing, any changes in home,
work, cell #’s during the school year so we may update your child’s emergency card.

Recommended Items your Child should bring to School:

  • Labeled Water Bottle- We discourage the use of water fountains especially during cold and flu season!

  • Snack and Juice Daily- Please help your child pick healthy snacks on a regular basis.

  • Labeled Chapstick- if lips are dry/cracked (kept in backpack)

  • A change of clothes spills, accidents and outdoor recess often result in wet clothing.  It is helpful to have a change of clothing in your child’s backpack for these times.
