About Us
WEF Mission
Established in 1994 our mission is "The Pursuit of Excellence in
Education through the development and distribution of private
resources to benefit and further enrich students of the
Wilmington School District."
WEF is a
non-profit organization that operates independently of the
Wilmington School District and that pursues and distributes
funds from private sources to enhance Wilmington's schools. WEF
helps to provide our children with the tools needed to learn
more effectively and to broaden their educational experiences
through supplemental funding.
WEF endeavors
to support and enrich the school system and its programs -- not
replacing the Town's funding for the school district, but
supplementing it through corporate and private donations. WEF
supports the Wilmington Public School System in five broad
areas: scholastic enrichment, arts in education, technology,
global awareness and staff professional development. WEF
directly helps Wilmington students by providing private funds
for innovative and creative programs that the school department
budget cannot cover. WEF strives to support the school system
through various local efforts that enrich its schools, students
and community as a whole.
WEF History
Since its establishment in 1994, the Foundation has raised over
$150,000. The initial Charter Donor Campaign in 1994-1995 raised
$60,000. During the period 2000-2003, fundraising
campaigns were dedicated to technology support for the schools.
For instance, in November 2000, the Foundation raised and
donated $14,817 for three SMART Boards for three Wilmington
elementary schools. WEF also raised nearly $76,000 to
provide two wireless 24 Capacity Laptop Carts for the Wilmington
High School. As technology has become integral to the school
system and has been allocated specific funding within the school
district's budget, WEF has expanded its support to the district
to areas in addition to technology with our annual
Technology Grants.
Board of Trustees
The Wilmington Educational Foundation is governed by a Board of
Trustees, which is composed of community, parent, and
school volunteers who are committed to making Wilmington'g great
school system evern better. Board meetings are regularly held
on the second Tuesday of each month during the school
year. Current board members are listed below. If you or
