Second Step Training
March 11, 2009

The Second Step Program is a researched-based violence prevention program that has been designed to be introduced into the regular classroom learning.  The goal of the program is to integrate academic learning along with the skills necessary for students to manage acceptable emotional and social behaviors. The program is broken into three parts: 1) empathy training, 2) problem solving, and 3) anger management.

The Wilmington Middle School began introducing the concepts of this program during a session of the 2007-2008 school year and has continued throughout the past years to introduce and reinforce the concepts of the program.  Over the past three years students have participated in a variety of classroom learning lesson plans and team building activities focusing on acceptable social and emotional behaviors.
