MISSION STATEMENT:
The Mission of the Wilmington
School Nurses is to maintain
School Health for all aspects
of development, so every
student
will succeed in school – physically, emotionally,
intellectually & socially. In order
to accomplish such
optimal wellness,
we must develop a strong link between
parents, school, community resources
and the School Health
Office.
Together we can help your child to succeed. |
MEDICATION POLICY:
Prescription Medication
If it is necessary for a child to take a prescription
medication during the school day, or have emergency medication available for
severe allergic reactions, the following are required:
- Medication Administration Form signed by
Doctor and Parent.
- 30 day supply of medication in prescription bottle,
properly labeled (child’s name, medication and instructions) given to
school nurse to administer.
- The above will not apply if the parent visits the
school and administers the medication himself/herself.
- Students are not allowed to transport medication in
their backpacks.
Non-Prescription Medication
May be given in school with prior written approval of
parent. No medication will be accepted unless provided in the original
store labeled container.
PARENTS/GUARDIANS ARE REQUIRED TO TRANSPORT ALL
MEDICATIONS DIRECTLY TO SCHOOL NURSE.
ILLNESS GUIDELINES:
If your child is ill at home or dismissed from school
with any of the following, it is our recommended health policy to keep the
child home until your child is seen by his/her physician and/or free of
all symptoms and fever for 24 hours. (Please keep in mind that body
temperature is always lowest in the morning.)
A fever of 100 degrees
or above
Vomiting or Diarrhea
Strep. Infection,
Conjunctivitis, Common Cold, Etc.
This will ensure a fuller recovery and lessen the risk
of passing on the infection to others! Thank you for your cooperation.
