Goals of the

Visual Art Program

Each student will be actively involved in four areas of learning:

Creating Art:

•Allowing familiarity with a variety of art media and processes

•Create 2D & 3D artworks to express ideas and feelings

•Develop a proficiency in terminology and techniques related to areas of art

•Developing the ability to understand and use the elements and principles of art

Perceiving and responding to Art:

•Developing ability to compare art forms

•Developing an understanding of art concepts

•Developing a capacity for aesthetic response

•Developing opinions and values for art judgments

•Develop an understanding of comparing, interpreting and evaluating art of self, other students and major artists

Historical and Cultural Inquiry:

•Develop and understanding for the role of art in history, culture and community

•Understanding roles of artists

Personal Growth:

•Recognizing art as a means of communication

•Encouraging the use of self-expression

•Strengthen perceptual awareness and cognitive skills through sensory experiences

•Develop an awareness for different careers in the field of art
